Before she could leave, she was bitten by a snake. Siddhartha and Vasudeva tended to her snake bite, but it wasn't enough. She died. Before she died she told Siddhartha that this was their eleven year old son. He was sort of surprised, but did what he had to to support his son. But that just wasn't enough for him. He was too spoiled and cynical. Basically saying that the things that Siddhartha was doing was not near good enough for his son. He wants to return the the city back to the wealthy and rich life.
